Joseph describes what drives him to be an intactivist. He is a citizen concerned for the rights of minors and the individual. He is against circumcision, specifically the circumcision of healthy, non-consenting minors because it is wrong on so many different levels.
Direct Sexual Nerve stimulation and its response becomes more important for men as they age because sex hormone levels of testosterone gradually diminish and vascular circulation becomes less efficient. Robbing men of 20,000 pleasure nerves and anatomical pleasure structures like the frenar band and frenulum deprives them of much needed nerve stimulation as they age.
I found that as I got older, my sexual pleasure decreased. After I started restoring my foreskin, sex got much better, even better than I remember from my 20s.
Various dictionaries list the phrase “genital mutilation” as the act of cutting all or some of the genital organs. “Mutilation” is an accurate way to describe infant circumcision. That there are possibly some benefits to this surgical procedure does not justify the act. Elective surgery — especially ones dealing with the genitals — should not be done without consent from the child. It is inexcusable to put a child through a painful ordeal that causes permanent negative changes even if there could be potential benefits.
In the year 2009, 32.5% of American newborn males were circumcised shortly after birth. Their foreskins were forcibly removed, as were ten of thousands of nerves endings, and the glans’ natural protection. Many of these boys were not even given adequate anesthesia, and a few experienced severe immediate complications. A few died from these complications.
One thing every one of these boys had in common? They did not give consent to their genitals being mutilated. What else do they all have in common? Regardless of whether or not each one of them grows up to realize or acknowledge it, every single one has a damaged sex organ.
32.5.% is 32.5% too much. Worldwide, forced male circumcision is also prevalent in predominantly Jewish and Muslim nations, as well as various African countries.
Meanwhile, about 2 million girls each year fall victim to genital mutilation as well. Most of this occurs in Africa, but it occurs elsewhere too- yes, even the United States. These girls have some combination of their clitorises, clitoral hoods, and labia minora partially or completely removed. In some cases, the vagina is sewn up as well.
Genital integrity refers to ALL humans’ - male, female, intersex, whatever - right to own their whole genitalia.
Each year, there are various events planned for Genital Integrity Awareness Week. The main one is the annual March/Demonstration Against Infant Circumcision, which takes place in Washington D.C. This year, similar events will also occur in Seattle, Boston, Los Angeles, and Vancouver. The easiest one to participate in, however, is the virtual one.
On March 30, 1997, a U.S. federal law went into effect criminalizing genital mutilation for females. Let’s hope males are soon given the same right too. Let’s not just hope. Let’s actually speak out against it.
If you’re against non-consensual genital mutilation performed on ANYBODY, I would greatly appreciate if you joined me in, well, making people aware. Even simply reblogging this would suffice.
Many babies are circumcised while they are in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or when they are released from the NICU. Joseph4GI questions, rightfully so, why any parent would think it OK to have elective, non-therapeutic surgery on a frail infant that had to be in the NICU. Worse yet, doctors are willing, and often suggest, such circumcision on sick and frail baby boys.
Avid intactivist Joseph started a blog. Joseph4GI lays his cards on the table as he tells everyone that he is against the forced circumcision of healthy, non-consenting minors. I make no exception for “religion” or “culture.” The only time that a child should undergo surgery is when there is actual medical or clinical indication, and all other methods of treatment have failed.
A common statement by a clueless person who was circumcised at birth:
I don’t think infant circumcision is the crime that some people make it out to be. My penis is fully functioning. I have wonderful sex and orgasms. There is nothing wrong with my penis.
Sorry buddy, but if you were circumcised at birth, you have no idea what you are missing. A man circumcised at birth has no basis of comparison about his penis. All he knows and ever knew was a circumcised penis.
Most men with a circumcised penis enjoy sex. But that is not to say that men with an intact penis do not have greater sexual pleasure.
The foreskin is erogenous tissue and enhances the sexual experience. Guys who were circumcised as an adult use the analogy that being circumcised is like seeing in black and white while having an intact penis is like seeing in color.
Just wanted to let you know there is hope. My best friend circumcised her first 2 sons back in the 80's. She was young and didn't know any better. She went on to have 8 more children, 3 being boys and did not circumcise them. She now also has 3 grandsons from the 2 sons who ARE circumcised. None of her grandsons are circumcised because she was adamant that they learn from her mistake. It is NOT ok to alter someone else's anatomy.
That is great news! It is always refreshing to hear that someone has seen the light and decides to do better. With more people like this, male infant circumcision will become a thing of the past.
The Case Against Infant Circumcision: Why does infant circumcision still exist?: Culture. In the United States the circumcision culture is strong, Even with the infant circumcision rate falling, the cultural pressure to cut the genitals of baby boys is strong. This post addresses many of the reasons for the cultural pressure to circumcise infants.
The Case Against Infant Circumcision: There is much evidence that infant circumcision is a traumatic and painful experience causing loss and deprivation, yet we find some or even many males that have been circumcised endlessly and obsessively promoting infant circumcision. Why is this so? One explanation may be a form of Stokholm Syndrome.
